everyone knows and loves the strong, independent princess leia. but if you’ve never read any of carrie fisher’s works (novels or memoirs) you’ve missed out on the incredible woman behind the general. my personal favorite is wishful drinking, which is also a special on hbo. her memoirs and novels-perhaps the most notable being postcards from the edge as it was later turned into a film starring meryl streep-delved into difficult topics that are often ignored. when it came to mental illness and addiction, fisher was honest and open, without compromising her biting wit and unfailing humor in every page. she was a woman who never hesitated in telling it like it was in life and slightly encoded message on twitter. she was a blaster-wielding role model and i am heartbroken at the loss. may the force be with you, incomparable carrie fisher.
